I had to install a new hard disk recently after which only the trial version of MS office is there in the PC and it is asking for a product key number. When I enter the product key used earlier in the PC before the hard drive change it is giving a message as 'invalid product key'.

If you got it from a PK sticker on the computer, take a closer look. Please check very carefully that you entered the Product Key correctly.
